Actor Sean Penn broke his silence on the persistent rumors.
In a recent interview with The New York Times, Penn addressed the rumor that he assaulted Madonna with a baseball bat.
Madonna and Penn had a tumultuous marriage that lasted from 1985 to 1989.
Rumors that Penn had beaten Madonna and tied her up like a turkey started to spread during their divorce proceedings, which Madonna filed for twice, in 1987 and 1989.

Penn admitted that his marriage to Madonna was not smooth sailing.
There was an incident where the SWAT team was dispatched to their home during a domestic dispute concerning a firearm in the house.
However, he clarified that the allegations of him assaulting Madonna were not true.
“A woman asked me if I hit Madonna with a baseball bat,” he shared. “I didn’t even know what she meant,” expressing his disbelief.

Penn filed a $10 million lawsuit in 2015 when film producer Lee Daniels spread rumors about him committing domestic violence in Hollywood.
Madonna stated, “It’s a completely outrageous, malicious, and reckless lie. We’ve had more than one heated argument, but Sean Penn neither tied me up nor assaulted me.”
