Volvo FH Electric Makes History as the 2024 International Truck of the Year

Volvo Trucks’ Volvo FH Electric has received the title of the 2024 International Truck of the Year (IToY2024).

Starting in 1977, the Truck of the Year award, a globally prestigious honor, features a jury of European commercial vehicle journalists for its selection. This marks the first instance of an electric truck winning the Truck of the Year award. Volvo Trucks President Roger Alm received the award at a ceremony held at the Solutrans exhibition in Lyon, France, on the 23rd. The 2024 Truck of the Year judges explained that the Volvo FH Electric had scored highly for its excellent performance, smooth acceleration system, and low noise and vibration technology.

Gianenrico Griffini, chairman of the Truck of the Year judges, said, “Volvo Trucks has introduced a cutting-edge battery electric truck product line suitable for various transport tasks with the launch of the FH Electric.” He added, “This is evidence that the need for energy transition in the commercial vehicle industry is emerging even in today’s challenging business environment.”

Roger Alm, President of Volvo Trucks, expressed pride, saying, “We are very proud that the Volvo FH Electric has won the Truck of the Year in a globally recognized award. Volvo Trucks, selected as ‘Truck of the Year’ for the fourth time this year

With this award, Volvo Trucks’ FH model has been selected for the fourth time as the Truck of the Year. The Volvo FH is the most successful model in the commercial vehicle industry, with about 1.4 million units sold worldwide.

The first production of the Volvo FH electric truck with a total weight of 44 tons began in 2022 at a factory in Gothenburg, Sweden, and production also started in Ghent, Belgium, in 2023.

Volvo Trucks was the world’s first to succeed in mass production of electric trucks in 2019 and holds a lineup of six electric truck models that can respond to various transport situations. In addition, Volvo Trucks is leading the industry, accounting for about 49% of the large electric truck market share in Europe today.
