The first Lamborghini EV coming in 2028

[iNews24, Reporter Song Dae-sung] Lamborghini is set to release its first all-electric car in 2028. The company announced on the 31st its expanded carbon neutrality goals for 2030, as part of the ‘Direzione Cor Tauri’ strategy for electrification and carbon emission reduction.

Through the largest investment in the brand’s history, Lamborghini aims to achieve carbon neutrality in its production facilities and reduce the company’s total carbon emissions per vehicle by 40% compared to 2021. This goal will be pursued by expanding the carbon emission program across the entire value chain.

Following the Direzione Cor Tauri electrification strategy announced in 2021, Lamborghini has continued its challenge for carbon neutrality. As a result, the brand will launch its first V12 high-performance hybrid super sports car (HPEV), the ‘Countach,’ in 2023, marking the first step towards hybridization. The hybridization process of Lamborghini’s lineup will extend to the first hybrid version of the world’s first super SUV ‘Urus’ and the second HPEV model to replace the V10 super sports car ‘Huracan’ this year.

The first all-electric car following the ‘Lanzador’ concept car unveiled at last year’s Monterey Car Week is set for release in 2028, and Lamborghini’s first all-electric super SUV is expected to be newly launched in 2029. This strategy will significantly reduce the carbon emissions of all vehicles in circulation compared to 2021, aiming for a 50% reduction by 2025 and an 80% reduction by 2030.

Stephan Winkelmann, President of Lamborghini, said, “Direzione Cor Tauri, Lamborghini’s roadmap towards electrification and carbon emission reduction, signifies carbon neutrality across the entire value chain and is a comprehensive approach to global environmental sustainability strategy. It proves that Automobili Lamborghini can have a sustainable vision. Lamborghini’s mission is to inspire and encourage others to solve these modern challenges.” He added, “We always aim to move forward for future generations while remaining faithful to Lamborghini’s DNA and roots.”

Stefano Domenicali, Chief Strategy Officer, said, “We aim to become a super sports car company that is truly committed to sustainability through a comprehensive vision of ESG issues. To achieve this, we have formed a dedicated team across departments to work on the execution of the Direzione Cor Tauri program.”
