Lamborghini Aims for 50% CO2 Emission Reduction by 2025, 80% by 2030

Lamborghini announced on January 30, 2024, that it will expand its decarbonization strategy. The company will allocate its most significant investment in history to electrify its lineup and reduce total corporate emissions per vehicle by 40% by 2030 compared to 2021. It added that it would reduce emissions across the entire value chain of each new car produced in Italy, from production to supply chain and logistics, over the vehicle’s entire life cycle.

Automobili Lamborghini announced that it would expand its “Direzione Cor Tauri” strategy to decarbonize the entire value chain and significantly reduce carbon emissions per vehicle by the end of the 2020s. This includes plans for a new electric vehicle as a successor model to the Urus.

Lamborghini claimed progress in sustainability through the ‘Direzione Cor Tauri’ decarbonization strategy first introduced in 2021. Since then, it has unveiled the hybrid electric vehicle called Revuelto, announced plans for a plug-in hybrid electric version of the Urus, and revealed details about its first battery-electric vehicle, the Lanzador.

Stephan Winkelmann, Chairman and CEO of Lamborghini, said about the enhanced strategy:

“Direzione Cor Tauri is a roadmap for the electrification of the Lamborghini lineup and the decarbonization of not only the Sant’Agata Bolognese facilities but the entire value chain. It is a comprehensive approach to global environmental sustainability strategies.”

Lamborghini plans to launch an electric version of the Lanzador in 2028 and the Urus in 2029. Through the expanded strategy, Lamborghini aims to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 50% by 2025 and 80% by 2030. The plan is to achieve complete carbon neutrality across the entire business by 2050.

Lamborghini, a subsidiary of Audi AG, once opposed the European Union’s regulation to make all new car sales electric by 2035.
