Six Chinese Automakers in Top 20 Global Sales for 2023

Market research company MarkLines unveiled the sales volume of global automotive companies for 2023. Toyota took the top spot with 11.23 million units sold, followed by Volkswagen group with 9.23 million units, Hyundai Motor Group with 7.3 million units, Stellantis with 6.39 million units, GM with 6.18 million units, Ford with 4.41 million units, Honda with 3.98 million units, Nissan with 3.37 million units, Suzuki with 3.07 million units, and BYD with 3.02 million units.

Toyota continued to record growth, and the Volkswagen group showed an evident recovery with a 12% increase. Hyundai Motor Group surpassed 7 million units again, with a 7% increase. A characteristic feature is that BYD, which surged 62%, ranked 10th.

Among Chinese automakers, five automakers, such as BYD, Geely Holdings Group, Changan Automobile Group, Chery Automobile, and Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC), were included in the top 20. The total global sales of these five automakers was 11.43 million units, a 32% increase compared to the same period last year.

BYD surged 62% compared to the previous year, and Geely Holdings Group ranked 11th with 2.79 million units, a 20% increase.

Other automakers ranked in the top 20 include BMW at 12th with 2.55 million units, Mercedes-Benz at 13th with 2.49 million units, Renault at 14th with 2.23 million units, Tesla at 17th with 1.8 million units, and India’s Tata Motors at 19th with 1.36 million units. Lastly, Mazda, with 1.24 million units, was ranked 20th.
