Tesla to Slash Sentry Mode Power Drain by 40%: Huge Savings and Environmental Impact

Tesla will be working on an update that will reduce Sentry Mode power consumption by 40% with a software update. Electric vehicles generally have a power loss similar to the standby power of home appliances while parked. In the case of Tesla vehicles, it allows cameras to monitor and record surrounding activities for ADAS and autonomous driving through Sentry Mode. It is said that approximately 7.2 kWh of power is consumed per day through this Sentry Mode. This is equivalent to about 10% of the battery capacity installed in Tesla’s Model 3/Y.

Therefore, Tesla plans to lower the power consumption of this Sentry Mode by up to 40% to solve these shortcomings. In particular, Tesla will be working on a software update of Sentry Mode in the second quarter of this year.

According to the electric vehicle portal Electrek, If Sentry Mode operates in 1 million Tesla vehicles for 24 hours, the results show that Sentry Mode consumes 7 GWh of energy per week. If Tesla owners can cut that by 40%, they just saved 2.8 GWh of power. That’s massive. This will ultimately reduce carbon emissions and save $420,000 weekly at $0.15 per kWh.
