According to the rankings, Tesla’s Model Y ranked 1st with 1,165,000 units, beating the Ford F Series with 878,000 units and the Toyota RAV4 with 868,000 units. Surprisingly, electric vehicles have surpassed internal combustion engine vehicles and hybrid vehicles in sales volume.

This was followed by 699,000 units of Honda CR-V, 649,000 units of Toyota Corolla, 608,000 units of GM Chevrolet Silverado, 523,000 units of Tesla Model 3, 521,000 units of Hyundai Tucson, 456,000 units of BYD Qin Plus, and 445,000 units of Stellantis Ram Pickup.

Meanwhile, in the 2023 electric vehicle sales ranking by companies, Tesla ranked 1st with 1,753,000 units, followed by BYD with 1,452,000 units. Ranking in 3rd place was Volkswagen Group with 731,000 units, 4th was GM with 604,000 units, 5th was Guangzhou Automobile Group with 477,000 units, 6th was Geely Auto with 475,000 units, 7th was Hyundai Motor Group with 390,000 units, 8th was BMW Group with 365,000 units, 9th was Shanghai Automotive Group with 305,000 units, and 10th was Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance with 289,000 units.

There were four Chinese automakers in the top 10. A completely different picture is being drawn from the 20th century and the 2000s.

Meanwhile, in the global automobile market in 2023, the share of internal combustion engine vehicles accounted for 76%, and electric vehicles accounted for 11%. However, this varies greatly by region. In the Chinese market in 2023, pure electric vehicles accounted for 30% of total sales. In Europe, the market share of pure electric vehicles reached 37%, and mild hybrid cars also came about 31%. In the Japanese market, hybrid vehicles accounted for 67%. In the North American market, the market share of internal combustion engine vehicles was high, and the shares of pure electric and hybrid cars were similar.
