If one were to pick just one standout from the numerous models BMW, a German automaker, has unveiled, many would probably choose the M3 model. The M3 best represents the BMW brand identity and can be considered a symbol of the high-performance M series. In particular, the early E30 M3 is a highly valued model. Of course, it has now been converted into a sedan, and the M4, the coupe model, is continuing its legacy.

What would the M3 look like if it reflected modern design sensibilities? Recently, a designer answered this question. The designer created a concept image for a new electric coupe and unveiled it under the name BMW 03 Coupe, drawing attention. Let’s take a look at the newly reborn BMW M3 below.

Lukas Wenzhofer is an automotive designer working with the Alias 3D models at Porsche. He is the person behind this interesting design. He recently designed and unveiled a new electric coupe under “BMW 03 Coupe” through his social media.

He explained that the BMW 03 Coupe he designed aimed to explore the brand’s design direction and create an entirely different car. He further explained that he took inspiration from BMW’s classic and current models and reconfigured them during the vehicle’s production process.

Examining the Design of the BMW 03 Coupe

Shall we take a look at the front of the BMW 03 Coupe drawn by Lukas Wenzhofer? In the center, a small kidney grille from the E30 era is located. On either side, there are very slim headlamps.

Looking at the side, it feels like two doors have been removed from the sedan. The roof and trunk lines are in the form of traditional sedans. Still, by attaching a body kit to the lower part of the car body and significantly lowering the ride height, the sportiness unique to the coupe is well implemented. The rear is noticeable, with a horizontal tail lamp crossing the trunk, and a zigzag design is added to the edge below for sportiness.

A Design that Merges Past and Present into the Future

The design of the 03 Coupe manifests the coexistence of the past and the present. The small kidney grille on the front and the roof shape pay homage to the old 3 Series and M3, while the slim tail lamp at the rear, the bold design visible in various parts, the door handles, and the wheel design reflect the latest design trends.

If we were to summarize the design of this vehicle in one phrase, it would be a futuristic feel conveyed by the meeting of the past and the present. Of course, it is not yet known how BMW will design the M3 or M4 electric car models, but it is pretty interesting to see a concept image created from the perspective of a current car designer.
