From Aprons to Ethereum: The Unlikely Journey of a Crypto Millionaire Couple

A documentary recently released by EBS has been garnering attention online. The released video appears to be an edited version of “Interview Korea 2018, Part 3: The Dream of Hitting the Jackpot,” which aired in June 2018.

The video features the story of a husband who is now living as a full-time house-husband after taking an honorary retirement thanks to his wife, a cryptocurrency genius.

The main characters of the story are Lee Da Eun, who lived as an ordinary housewife and dramatically changed her life after hitting the jackpot with her cryptocurrency investments, and Kang Ho Geon, who became a house-husband after retirement.

During the broadcast, Da Eun revealed that her earnings were a staggering $1.9 million, which drew envy from viewers.

In a rather unconventional scene, Ho Geon prepares a meal, saying, “Today’s menu is anchovy soybean paste soup. You continue working. I’ll handle the cooking,” as Da Eun works at the dining table with her laptop.

While social perceptions have changed significantly, it is still not familiar in our society to see a man prepare meals while a woman sits at the table waiting to eat. This is especially true among the older generation.

Da Eun also revealed her secret to earning $1.9 million while working from the dining table.

Da Eun explained, “I owned Ethereum. I made profits by selling it when the price went up and cashing out when I felt it was about to drop a bit.” She continued, “Investment is when the value of what I own rises over time, and that’s when I make a profit. Speculation is when I put in $750 and hope that it will become $1,500 the day after tomorrow.” She added, “I’m entering my senior years now, and I’ve seen many elderly people who are unprepared for retirement picking up trash. I thought that as long as I didn’t do it in the form of speculation without debt, I could secure enough funds for retirement.” She explained the secret to the success of the investment.

Da Eun, who originally lived as an ordinary housewife, seized her opportunity through relentless study. Thanks to Da Eun’s investment success, her husband has taken on a new role as a full-time house-husband after retiring from a shipping company.

Ho Geon admitted with a bitter smile, “After retirement, I realized I had no skills to find work anywhere else.” He added, “We lived in Busan, but when my wife decided to move to Seoul, we naturally moved together.”

Ho Geon seemed very proud of his work as a full-time house-husband, making viewers smile.

Indeed, the couple’s lives have significantly changed since the successful investment. Da Eun recalled, “I paid off my debt of more than $750,000 and bought a watch for my husband,” adding, “I think my concept about money has changed.”

Da Eun also expressed, “When we were receiving a salary, I had to adjust my lifestyle to my income and save money, but now I feel affluent.” She revealed her ambition to continue studying for future investments.

Da Eun emphasized, “If I invest, the value of what I have will increase over time, and I will make a profit.” However, she warned, “Hoping to turn $750 into $1,500 by selling the next day is speculation. From this perspective, real estate and stocks can also become speculative.” She repeatedly stressed the importance of being cautious about speculation.

The video has garnered over 260,000 views in just four days since its release, sparking heated discussions online.

There are no recent updates on Da Eun and Ho Geon’s current situation. However, it’s predicted that the couple, who made $1.9 million six years ago, may have earned even more by now.

Ethereum, the cryptocurrency Da Eun invested in, is a native currency of the public blockchain Ethereum, created by Vitalik Buterin in 2015.

It is one of the most representative cryptocurrencies, along with Bitcoin, and anyone interested in cryptocurrency investment would have heard of it at least once.

Considering that Ethereum was traded at around $3,650 per coin in 2021, it is believed to have a high potential to surpass Bitcoin in the future.
