Following recent coverage by French media outlets, British and Italian media outlets have also been praising the series. According to the Korean Content Agency, British media outlet NME as well as Italian outlets WIRED and Panaroma have highly praised Mask Girl.

These media outlets evaluated the series as “dealing with various genres such as horror, satire, social criticism, and black comedy, while maintaining a consistent storytelling style.”

NME described Mask Girl directed by Kim Yong Hoon and written by him, as a drama that depicts the story in a fresh, experimental, and anthropological way through the eyes of various characters.

In particular, they applauded the performances of Go Hyun Jung, Nana, and Lee Han Byeol. They praised how these actors realistically portrayed the broken spirits and quiet madness of the character Kim Momi, as well as the character’s fame and love from the public.

According to the media, Mask Girl asks the question of how far people who have been abandoned and broken can go to feel loved.

WIRED described Mask Girl under the title “A scary series that reveals the cruelty of beauty” and praised it as “undoubtedly the most intense series of the year.” They further stated, “It portrays the social fear of how women are treated based on their appearance, relationships, and work in today’s society.”

The media analyzed that this series tells the story of a woman living multiple lives surrounded by numerous female characters, each experiencing the obsession with social relationships based on appearance, but all facing the “injustice of society.”

Another Italian media outlet, Panaroma, focused on the “characters with similar characteristics” and praised how viewers immerse themselves in the emotions felt by those who suffer some form of pain due to their appearance.

The media also mentioned that through the characters surrounding Kim Momi in the drama, it sheds light on the dark side of modern Korean society, such as the issue of school violence among celebrities.
