G-Dragon’s hair and nails tested negative for drugs… What is the current police position?

G-Dragon (Kwon Ji-Yong, 35), a singer from the group Big Bang, who has been under investigation for drug administration, has received a negative result in the detailed examination of his fingernails and toenails following his hair.

According to the police on the 21st, the National Forensic Service (NFS) recently notified the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency’s Drug Crime Investigation Division that “G-Dragon’s fingernails and toenails tested negative for drugs.”

However, the police withhold comments, saying, “We cannot disclose the examination results.” Until now, the police have suspected that G-Dragon administered drugs based on the testimony of Ms. A (29, female), the owner of an entertainment establishment in Gangnam, Seoul.

However, as they have failed to secure physical evidence and are being criticized for a poor investigation, the police have reportedly stated, “We are investigating the possibility of administering new types of drugs.”

Hankyoreh reported on the day, “Even if G-Dragon’s fingernail and toenail tests came out negative, it could not be concluded that there is no possibility of administering drugs,” and “Because the investigation is ongoing regarding the possibility of G-Dragon administering new types of drugs that are not detected in the NFS test.”

Even if all the NFS tests were negative, he could have administered new types of drugs that were not detected. Although the types of new drugs are being increased through research by the NFS, it is explained that the spread of synthetic drugs is so fast that detection at a 100% level is not possible.

However, it was predicted that “Even if the fact of administering new types of drugs that the NFS cannot confirm is confirmed, if the drugs are not specified in the law, they cannot be punished,” and “If the indirect evidence is weak and the situation depends on testimony, proving the charges is not easy.”

G-Dragon was charged with violating the Narcotics Control Act on the 25th of last month. He, who has been denying the drug administration charges since the beginning, voluntarily appeared at the police station on the 6th.

After the initial drug test came out negative, the police collected additional hair, fingernails, and toenails and requested a detailed examination from the NFS.

Generally, a preliminary drug test shows a positive reaction if drugs were taken 5-10 days prior, but it is difficult to detect if drugs were taken before that. For hair, the length of the hair can confirm whether drugs were taken within about a year, and nail analysis can determine whether drugs were taken 5-6 months prior.

Meanwhile, G-Dragon has taken legal action against those posting malicious posts about him.
