Insider Scoop from ‘Boss in the Mirror’: Park Myung Soo’s Comedy Journey and Lee Kyung Sil’s Bold Confession

On April 28, KBS2’s variety show Boss in the Mirror (now called Boss Mirror) featured Park Myung Soo and Ji Chun Hee, a veteran designer with 46 years of experience.

Park Myung Soo met with Jo Hye Ryeon. Jo excitedly told Park, “You’ve brought a beautiful comedian that makes your heart flutter.” However, the person who appeared saying, “I think I need to put an end to my relationship with Myung Soo,” was Lee Kyung Sil. To this, Park Myung Soo said, “Lee Kyung Gyu, Lee Seung Chul, and Lee Kyung Sil are the people I respect the most,” and tried to make amends. However, Lee Kyung Sil confessed, “Even though it was a joke, it was stressful.”

Park Myung Soo expressed his feelings by saying, “I learned the attitude of a comedian from senior Lee Kyung Sil, who made me harshly memorize lines 25 years ago.” Lee Kyung Sil also toasted reconciliation: “Myung Soo did well because he is excellent at live radio, reads books, and tries hard in his way.”

As the atmosphere warmed up, a new revelation began, adding tension. When Kim Sook asked about a limited edition keyring he had given to Jeong Sun Hee in the past, Park Myung Soo joked, “Are you trying to ruin my family by bringing up a story from 25 years ago?” He continued, “Kyung Sil was very popular. Byung Seo chased her around,” and brought up Seol Woon Do and Lee Yoon Seok.

Lee Kyung Sil admitted to some extent. She revealed a story about Choi Byung Seo: “He showed me three large shopping bags full of 10,000 won bills. I was shocked. I asked him why he was carrying around that money. He said, ‘You manage it.'” Kim Sook laughed, saying, “That’s a total proposal.” Lee Kyung Sil said, “If I had bad intentions, I would have taken one of the shopping bags.”

Next, Ji Chun Hee appeared. She was introduced as “the designer actresses love,” known for designing drama costumes for Shim Eun Ha and Lee Young Ae and red carpet dresses for Youn Yuh Jung, Park So Dam, and others.

Admiration poured out for Ji Chun Hee’s charisma, meticulously checking everything from the entrance flower bed management to the spring product stock status and maintaining a poker face even when informed that all new designs had sold out.

Ji Chun Hee said, “I love making clothes stitch by stitch. It’s the essence of Made in Korea, all handmade,” and conducted a fitting rehearsal for the 2024 F/W collection. Es Team representative Kim So Yeon, who confirmed the show’s location at Unhyeongung Palace for the F/W collection-themed Misty Forest, appealed to her strenuous effort to hold a show at a cultural property. Ji Chun Hee also showed confidence. However, after hearing the main music for the show, she gave Kim So Yeon homework, saying, “It keeps repeating. Look for another song.”

Just before the rehearsal started, Kim So Yeon explained Ji Chun Hee’s perfectionism: “I have clients from luxury mega global brands, but I’m more nervous about Ji Chun Hee’s show. She checks everything from the buttons to the socks to the model’s skin tone.” During the rehearsal, Ji Chun Hee showed her charisma by directing adjustments to everything from the fitting to the button spacing. When Kim So Yeon praised her, Ji Chun Hee said, “Don’t just say good things. If you say it’s bad, they’ll work harder,” showing her professional side.

Next, Chef Lee Yeon Bok visited master blacksmith Jeon Man Bae, who has been running a blacksmith shop for four generations, with his younger colleagues Chef Lee Yeon Hee and Chef Jung Ho Young. That day, Lee Yeon Bok admired a knife decorated with pure silver and jade worth 14 million won (about $11,700) and a traditional knife that appeared in the drama “Dae Jang Geum.”

Jeon Man Bae, who said, “I make knives tailored to the character and purpose of the user,” remarked, “Looking at Chef Lee Yeon Bok’s knife blade management status, he is meticulous and calm. A master is indeed a master.”

On the other hand, seeing Lee Yeon Hee’s broken knife blade, he astounded everyone by accurately pointing out, “This knife blade didn’t break from being dropped. It was thrown.” He then proceeded to custom-make a knife for Lee Yeon Hee, who lacked strength in his wrist, satisfying him with a light and sturdy knife.

Next, Lee Yeon Bok and Jung Ho Young had a cooking showdown to win Jeon Man Bae’s handmade knife worth 1.5 million won (about $1,250). During the competition, Lee Yeon Hee broke a bottle of oyster sauce, but Lee Yeon Bok poured out various tips and tricks and completed a dish of Paljin Tangmyeon. Jung Ho Young also deliciously completed a special soy sauce crab Soboro Udon dish. After tasting the Paljin Tangmyeon, Jeon Man Bae praised it, saying, “I’m happy,” and handed over the handmade knife he had offered as a prize to Lee Yeon Bok.
