BTS V’s Retirement Dream: Shrimp Crackers, Family, and Life After the Spotlight

Singer Na Hoon A, who debuted in 1966 with the song “Long Distance Road,” surprised many by announcing his retirement after 58 years in the industry. This has brought renewed attention to the retirement plans of other stars.

On April 27, Na Hoon A officially announced his retirement at the 2024 Na Hoon A Concert Thank You (Last Concert) held at Songdo Convensia in Yeonsu-gu, Incheon. At the beginning of the concert, he expressed his regret by stating, “First of all, this Incheon performance will be the last.”

Regarding suspicions that he is retiring due to health issues, he reassured fans that he received a clean bill of health from various tests, including a physical examination conducted in February this year.

He said about his retirement plans, “Do you know how hard I’ve struggled? I’ve stopped wanting to eat even when there’s delicious food on the street. Now, I’m going to live doing what I want. I’ll go places I’ve never been and eat things I’ve never tasted,” expressing a bittersweet resolution. He added, “I should spend all the money I’ve earned through hard work before I die.” It seems that Na Hoon A, who has lived in the public eye, wants to live as an ordinary citizen, doing everything he wishes to do.

V of the globally acclaimed K-pop group BTS also made headlines when he revealed his retirement plans while actively performing.

V, who debuted in June 2013, mentioned his post-retirement plans in an interview. At the time, he surprised fans by unveiling a romantic plan, saying, “After completing all my activities in acting and singing by the age of forty, I will dedicate my life to my wife and live by building a family.”

He also shared a very specific dream: “I want to spend my old age looking cool, throwing shrimp crackers to pigeons in the park in the fall, wearing a brown beret and a brown coat,” which brought smiles to many. V has previously named his father as his role model. He added, “I want to be a husband who takes good care of his children, pushes for their desired future, gives advice, and gets scolded a lot by his wife,” surprising many.

Fans reacted with various comments such as “V seems very family-oriented,” “He must have come from a harmonious family,” “I want to be a pigeon,” and “Can he not retire from the entertainment industry?”

Jin Sung, known as the “BTS of the Trot Genre,” has expressed his wish to retire at 68.

Jin Sung, who appeared on KBS 2TV’s “Let’s Live Together with Park Won Sook Season 3” aired on February 21 last year, surprised fans by revealing his specific retirement age.

On the day, Jin Sung said, “I’m happier now than ever,” and “It’s time to start wrapping up. I won’t be singing after turning 70,” expressing his determination to retire. He revealed his dream of living in harmony with nature and plans to retire at 68. He also shared his plans to give back to society for a couple of years after retirement, and from the age of 70, he wants to live his own life.

Meanwhile, Jin Sung debuted with “Lamp of You” in 1994 and gained popularity with songs like “Don’t Tackle,” “At Andong Station,” and

Boritgogae”.

Singer and actress IU, currently dating actor Lee Jong Suk, shared her candid thoughts on retirement when she appeared on SBS’s variety show “Strong Heart” in 2012.

On the show, IU said, “I want to get married early. I want to get married when I’m the prettiest, most popular, and most loved,” and “If I get married, I will quit my job and devote myself to housekeeping,” surprising many with her proactive stance on marriage as a young adult.

IU also explained, “My life goal is a happy marriage. I think the stability that a warm family provides is good. I think I will lose my greed when I get married.”

As an actress, IU returns to fans through the Netflix drama “When Life Gives You Tangerines,” starring alongside Park Bo Gum. IU has been publicly dating Lee Jong Suk since December 2022.
