BTS RM Reveals Struggle with Fame: ‘I Wanted to Die’

BTS’s RM confessed about his past struggles.

On May 25th, a video titled “Swap Album MMM-RM” was uploaded to BTS’s official YouTube channel, BANGTANTV. BTS Jimin visited RM’s home and listened to RM’s new album before its release. RM opened up, saying, “I am the one who speaks properly and says good things in our team, and I am the one who represents the team. People always expect speeches, interviews, and statements of conviction from me.”

He confessed, “I love BTS because it takes the form of music, but at some point, we had to stand out and be different, constantly watching everyone else. I felt like I wanted to die.”

He continued, “I’m just an insignificant 29-year-old Korean man. A 29-year-old living a slightly different life from others. When I couldn’t say everything I wanted to say, I made this album to let it out.”

While producing this album, he shared behind-the-scenes stories, saying, “A lot of things happened that most people wouldn’t experience in their lifetime. I was originally going to enlist with J-Hope, but I ended up preparing for the album with a friend from Balming Tiger, San Yawn.” RM also revealed, “We suffered for a long time over the issue of military enlistment. There were a lot of rumors, and I had a lot of personal incidents and accidents. I decided to leave these things behind and vomit them out. I tried to be as honest as possible.” RM, who has been serving his mandatory military service in the Army since last December, released his second solo album, Right Place, Wrong Person, on May 24th.
