BTS Jin’s Fan Meet Takes a Disturbing Turn with Harassment Accusations

BTS member Jin reportedly experienced sexual harassment by some fans trying to kiss him during a hugging event with 1,000 fans, resulting in reporting them to the authorities.

On June 14, an investigation into fans who attempted to sexually harass Jin by trying to kiss Jin was requested in a complaint lodged at the Songpa Police Station in Seoul. The fans were suspected of breaking the Sexual Violence Punishment Act. Upon receiving the complaint, the police are expected to review it before opening up a formal investigation.

The complainant claimed to have reported the fans who started the sexual harassment controversy online. “I read in the news that it’s becoming a big deal that these fans sexually harrassed Jin. As someone who enjoys BTS’ music, I couldn’t help but be outraged,” they shared, stating the basis for their complaint.

The complainant reported the fans who sexually harassed Jin under Article 11 of the Sexual Violence Punishment Act, and Molestation in Crowded Public Places, calling for severe punishment.

Jin held “Jin’s Greetings” and “June 13, 2024, Seokjin, Clear Weather” events at the Jamsil Indoor Gymnasium in Songpa-gu, Seoul as part of the 2024 FESTA, celebrating BTS’s 11th anniversary.

Promising to hug 1,000 fans, Jin wore a sign around his neck that read “Hug me.”

While Jin was expressing his love for fans by hugging each fan in turn, one fan gestured to attempt to kiss him. Caught off guard by the unexpected physical contact, Jin quickly pulled away.

This incident spread quickly online, with fans raising their voices in criticism, calling it clear sexual harassment.

Jin was the first BTS member to announce his military discharge on June 12. BTS is expected to return to their fans one by one, starting with Jin’s discharge, with their group activities resuming in 2025 after all members complete their military service.
