Roller Coaster Suddenly Stops 320 ft. Above Ground, but Why?

On the 18th, a roller coaster at an amusement park in Japan suddenly stopped due to a power outage when it was near the top of its track at 97 meters (approximately 318 feet).

According to Japanese broadcasters NHK and TBS, the incident happened around 11:50 a.m. at Nagashima Spa Land in Kuwana City, Mie Prefecture. The roller coaster, named Steel Dragon, stopped as it ascended towards its peak.

At the time, about 20 passengers were onboard. Fortunately, power was restored five minutes later, and the ride resumed without any injuries reported.

According to the amusement park’s operators, the outage was caused by lightning, which also affected other facilities at the park simultaneously.

At the time, the area had a weather advisory for unstable atmospheric conditions, including a lightning warning.
