The sad story of a victim who drank a smoothie with plastic pieceshas been shared online.

On the 3rd, a post was uploaded on an online community stating that a customer had recently drank a smoothie mixed with plastic pieces at a franchise cafe in Jochiwon-eup, Sejong City, and suffered from intestinal bleeding, leading to a miscarriage.

The post was written by a person identified as A, who stated, “A few days ago, my husband, child, and I ordered the same drink at the cafe. This drink contained an unbelievable amount of plastic pieces. My husband and I received a medical opinion that our gums, throats, esophagus, and organs were all scratched, leading to intestinal bleeding,” appealing for the damage they suffered.

According to the revealed story, the cafe owner, who was busy with many orders at the time, blended a ‘plastic smoothie’ with the plastic container in which the ingredients were divided and served it to the customers.

A, who drank the beverage,

added to the sadness by saying, “I even miscarried.”
The victim said, “During the treatment process, I, who was in the early stages of pregnancy, was diagnosed with a miscarriage,” and in a subsequent post added, “I lost my child today (3rd),” expressing sorrow.

However, the response from the store owner and the headquarters only added to the anger. A said, “The owner came to the emergency room and said things like ‘it’s plastic, so it digests well,’ and ‘there’s no way plastic can go down the throat.’ When a furious acquaintance went to find the owner, the owner said,

‘If you want to settle, I can only give you 500,000 won ($425) for medical expenses and consolation money.'”Eventually, A contacted the headquarters to protest, but the headquarters said, “It was the owner’s mistake and happened due to carelessness. Resolve it with the owner.”

As the post became an issue, the headquarters finally announced that they would take strong action, including revoking the owner’s business rights, and the store, which had been operating normally, is currently closed.
