Honda Civic Hybrid Goes Local: Production in North America from 2024

Honda

Honda announced that the new Honda Civic Hybrid will be produced locally in North America from 2024. Both hatchbacks and sedans will be released for sale in the U.S. and Canadian markets.

Honda is adding a hybrid powertrain to the Civic, expanding its hybrid lineup following the CR-V and Accord. The Civic Hybrid is expected to account for more than 40% of Civic sales in the North American market. Since 1988, Honda has produced over 11 million Civics in North America.

The new Civic Hybrid will be produced in the spring of 2024 at the Honda of Canada (HCM) in Alliston, Ontario, Canada. The hatchback will be assembled at the Indiana plant in Greensburg, Indiana. The hybrid power unit with two electric motors will be produced at Honda’s transmission plant in Ohio, and the 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder gasoline Atkinson cycle engine will be made at the Anna engine plant in Ohio.

More than 56% of U.S. sales of the CR-V and Accord are hybrid models, and more than a quarter of Honda’s total U.S. sales are electrified models.

Honda aims to achieve carbon neutrality in all products and corporate activities by 2050 and has set a vision to convert 100% of new car sales to EVs or fuel cell vehicles by 2040. Honda will start selling EVs in 2024 with its first fully electric SUV, Prologue. In 2025, they plan to launch a medium-to-large EV based on the electric vehicle-only platform ‘Honda e: Architecture’.
