Biden ‘inspired’: ‘Mission Impossible’ changed US policy.

[TV Report= Lee Kyung-min] President Joe Biden reportedly took steps towards “AI regulation” after watching Tom Cruise’s ‘Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part 1’.

On the last day of the previous month, President Biden signed an executive order containing safety measures and regulatory plans for the use of artificial intelligence (AI).

Biden announced the executive order, acknowledging both the enormous potential and risks of AI. “AI is all around us,” the President noted, adding, “To realize the potential of AI and avoid its dangers, we must manage this technology.” He also presented a vision for AI.

What’s notable is that the movie ‘Mission Impossible’ had a certain influence on President Biden’s decision to establish ‘AI regulation’.

Bruce Reed, the White House Chief of Staff, told ‘AP News’ that President Biden recently watched ‘Mission Impossible’ and realized there were many concerns about AI after watching the movie. Before the film, he hadn’t worried about AI issues.

‘Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part 1’, starring Tom Cruise and released in July, became a hot topic as it was the first in the series to feature an AI, not a human, as the villain.

The AI ‘entity’ in the movie easily identified the weaknesses of each character based on vast amounts of data, plunging the protagonist into crisis. In the film, the ‘entity’ is portrayed as a real threat, capable of perfectly mimicking a colleague’s voice or manipulating video images to change people’s faces.

Chief of Staff Bruce Reed mentioned that President Biden found the movie impressive and alarming during the months of meetings leading up to the drafting of the executive order.

In particular, President Biden is said to have taken note of the ‘voice cloning’ technology featured in the movie. The Chief of Staff stated, “The President saw and heard about the terrifying technology of ‘voice cloning,’ which can change a 3-second voice into a complete voice.” He mentioned that the President is concerned about the ‘voice cloning’ technology discussed in the movie.

As discussions about AI technology intensify, many are focusing on how humanity will address the potential dangers that AI could bring.
