Desire to Sign Extradition Agreement with the U.S. Soon

The Minister of Justice in Montenegro, who will decide the country of extradition for Do Kwon, the key figure in the  Terraform Labs cryptocurrency scandal, hinted at the possibility of extradition to the United States.

According to Bloomberg on the 24th (local time), Montenegrin Justice Minister Andrej Milovic did not directly state where he plans to send CEO Kwon between Korea and the U.S. during a local TV interview the day before. Still, he said, “The U.S. is our major diplomatic policy partner.”

He continued, “We want to sign a bilateral extradition agreement as soon as possible to establish a legal framework for future extraditions.”

Bloomberg interpreted Minister Milovic’s comments as an indirect revelation of his intentions regarding the country to which CEO Kwon will be extradited.

The High Court in Podgorica, the Montenegrin capital, stated on its website that Minister Milovic will ultimately decide the country to which CEO Kwon will be extradited. Both Korea and the U.S. have been requesting the extradition of CEO Kwon to the Montenegrin court since his arrest.

Analyses indicate that the high likelihood of extradition to Korea stems from Korea submitting its extradition request before the U.S. Furthermore, CEO Kwon agreed to be extradited to Korea himself. The Montenegrin court confirmed that the extradition requests from Korea and the U.S. for CEO Kwon arrived on March 29 and April 3, respectively.
