Seized drugs: 220.5 lbs of Cocaine/Southern Sea Police Agency

On the 15th, at around 3:35 p.m., the Southern Sea Police Agency confiscated approximately 220.5 lbs of suspected cocaine from a domestic cargo ship (a 70,000-ton class) anchored at Busan New Port.

The cargo ship had departed from a port in Brazil early last month, passing through Singapore and Hong Kong, and made its destination at Busan New Port that day. During the hull inspection, the Sea Police, having been tipped off that there was a suspicious substance in the SEA CHEST under the hull, found the smuggled drug there.

According to the Sea Police, the cocaine was covered in three black bags, divided into about 2.2 lbs for each bag, totaling 100 bags. The preliminary test, using a simple reagent, reported a ‘positive’, indicating the presence of cocaine, and an urgent appraisal request was given to the National Forensic Service for a more precise ingredient test.

The Sea Police seized all suspected cocaine and then set up an investigation headquarters to investigate the drug import and distribution routes among the crew members.
