The Labor Newspaper reported on the 22nd that the Physics Research Institute of the North Korean National Academy of Sciences has developed and introduced a rapid analysis system for slag components in the oxygen furnace of Hwanghae Iron and Steel Complex (Hwangcheol).

In the past, the Hwanghae Iron and Steel Complex experienced difficulties in the production of ‘juche steel’ (so named because it is made with domestic coal) because it could not quickly analyze the components of the slag coming out of the oxygen furnace. However, after several months, the workers worked together and completed an analysis device following the on-site condition of the furnace workplace.

Thanks to this significant research achievement, it can now quickly analyze the alkalinity of the slag coming out of the oxygen furnace, adjust the raw material input ratio in time, and reduce the sulfur content, significantly improving the quality of the pig iron.

In addition, the newspaper added that a scientific and technological guarantee had been achieved to reduce the daily consumption of Coke while maintaining production levels compared to the past.

Steel slag is the slag generated by removing impurities from molten iron and adjusting the components to match the type of final steel product.
