With the advent of the electric vehicle era, the new trend of reviving classic cars as electric vehicles is slowly spreading. Equipping a classic car with an electric vehicle powertrain provides memories to middle-aged people. Old Mini, Volkswagen Old Beetle, etc., were revived as electric vehicles.

Recently, the UK’s Lunaz, an electric vehicle startup, revived and unveiled the classic Range Rover as an electric vehicle. Range Rover is Land Rover’s first luxury SUV, a monumental model that gave it its current premium image. Let’s look at the classic Range Rover, which was reborn as an electric vehicle.

Converting a classic 2-door model into a convertible model

The first early Range Rover electric car was inspired by the Range Rover convertible that appeared in the movie ‘007 Octopussy’, released in 1983. For this purpose, Lunaz obtained a 1983 two-door Range Rover.

Afterward, the roof, B-pillar, and C-pillar were removed, and the loss of rigidity due to the removal of the roof and pillar was made up for by reinforcing the body and chassis. In the James Bond movie, the exterior color was brown, but Lunaz used a contrasting Maya Blue color, and the soft top was dark blue.

Equipped with a motor equivalent to a V8 engine
The interior design has been completely changed

The Range Rover, converted to an electric vehicle, is equipped with a dual motor instead of a V8 engine, generating 381 horsepower. A new suspension specialized for electric vehicles and a 6-piston front wheel and 4-piston rear caliper were applied to improve overall performance. The Range Rover’s greatest strength, depth of water driving ability, is said to be waterproofed to a depth of up to 500 mm (1.6 feet).

While the exterior retains most of its classic look, the interior has been completely changed. For this purpose, 3D printing technology using composite materials was applied. A center display will be added to support Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and the latest infotainment system. In addition, a light blue color that matches well with the exterior was applied overall, and the center console was made of wood.

50 Range Rovers in the future Planning to switch to electric vehicles

Lunaz spent 5,000 hours converting the car into an electric vehicle. Afterward, it was announced that 50 early-model Range Rovers would be converted to electric vehicles.

Initially, only the 2-door model was converted to an electric vehicle, and then the 4-door model was converted to an electric vehicle. Exterior colors, interior colors, and interior materials can be customized according to customer requests.
