BMW Cancels Plans for Limited Edition Z4 Touring Coupe – Here’s Why!

BMW-양산

The Z4, BMW’s roadster model, is a stylish sports car with a sleek exterior design and high-level driving performance. Interestingly, it was developed in conjunction with Toyota, so the coupe model is defined as the Toyota Supra, while the convertible model is the BMW Z4. This car’s third-generation model is currently on sale.

BMW previously unveiled a touring coupe model based on this Z4 as a concept car. At the time, they announced plans to mass-produce the vehicle as a limited edition model, but it seems they have recently canceled the plans entirely. So, why did they decide to cancel the production? Let’s find out.

Continuing the legacy of the Z3 coupe

BMW has experience making this type of car before. It is based on the Z3, the predecessor of the Z4. However, it might be surprising that the Z3 coupe is almost like a hatchback, though it’s called a coupe. One thing that was the same as the Z4 touring coupe was that it attracted consumers with its unique look.

Let’s go back to the Z4 touring coupe. Last year, BMW unveiled the concept car for this vehicle and mentioned plans for mass production. Of course, it wouldn’t be mass-produced permanently, but they planned to produce a small quantity as a limited edition model. Consumers worldwide who heard this news sent warm cheers, and some even started counting down to its actual release.

Let’s take a look at the exterior of the BMW Z4 touring coupe

Let’s examine the exterior of the Z4 touring coupe. Because this vehicle was designed based on the existing Z4 Roadster, the basic details are the same as the Z4 Roadster. The difference is the addition of a new roof and a tailgate at the back that wasn’t there before. This tailgate opens along with the rear glass.

BMW called this vehicle a touring coupe, but strictly speaking, it belongs to the shooting brake category.
This is because it resembles a wagon based on a coupe. It shows a silhouette similar to that of shooting brake models like the Ferrari GTC4 Lusso and the Panamera Sports Turismo. People who saw this gave it the nickname “clown shoe.”

BMW, which ultimately decided to cancel mass production
Can’t even meet them in a limited edition

The Z4 touring coupe was planned to be produced in a limited edition. However, BMW recently decided to cancel the mass production of this vehicle. What could be the reason? BMW stated, “Although we planned to produce a limited edition, there was no clear justification for deciding on mass production.” This could mean that the vehicle lacked a clear purpose for investing capital in production, which led to the decision after a long period.
