Famous Japanese Voice Actor Tōru Furuya’s Affair with Fan 37 Years His Junior and Forced Abortion

Tōru Furuya, a well-known Japanese voice actor, has found himself at the center of a scandal after admitting to an affair with a woman 37 years younger than him.

On May 22nd, the Japanese weekly tabloid, Shūkan Bunshun, broke the news that Furuya had been engaged in a 4.5-year affair with a much younger female fan. The relationship reportedly led to a forced abortion and an assault.

Reports indicate that Furuya first reached out to the woman, who is in her 30s, sparking an illicit affair.

In 2021, the woman became pregnant and later disclosed that she had been forced into having an abortion and had been assaulted, all of which Furuya has confessed to. He quickly issued a detailed apology on social media following the revelations.

Furuya revealed that he had engaged in a four-and-a-half-year affair with a female fan, which ended in September of the previous year. He confessed that her supportive nature initially attracted him, prompting him to initiate contact and begin the relationship.

He admitted that he had carelessly raised his hand against her during an argument. Furuya also acknowledged the serious mistake of coercing her into having an abortion. He expressed profound remorse for inflicting both physical and emotional pain on her and offered a sincere apology. He apologized for betraying his fans’ trust, damaging his reputation, and causing distress to everyone involved.

His agency also stated, “This incident reflects a lack of awareness and responsibility as a voice actor. It is something that should never have happened. Furuya deeply regrets his actions, and we acknowledge that our guidance and supervision of him were inadequate. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused.”

Tōru Furuya, a renowned Japanese voice actor, started his career in 1963. He has gained popularity among fans by playing lead roles in famous animations such as Gundam, Case Closed, Sailor Moon, One Piece, and Dragon Ball.
