How a Slip in the Right Shoe Revealed a Brain Tumor

SBS

A story shared by a man in his 30s from China is causing a stir.

Known as Wang, the 32-year-old man from Shenzhen, China, preferred wearing sandals.

Last year, Wang noticed that his right foot was frequently slipping out of his shoe and was experiencing numbness in his foot.

After suffering from the same symptoms for several months, Wang decided to visit a neurologist.

After undergoing detailed examinations, Wang was diagnosed with a meningioma, a tumor that originates in the brain and spinal cord layers.

The tumor, which had grown to a diameter of 5.6 cm (about 2.2 in.), was pressing on the nerves, causing paralysis and sensory disturbances, and made his right foot slip out of his shoe.

Meningiomas are primary tumors of the central nervous system, accounting for about 15 to 20% of all intracranial tumors.

The neurologist informed Wang that the only treatment option was surgery.

Wang followed the doctor’s advice and underwent surgery and treatment and is reported to have made a full recovery.
