Stage 4 Lung Cancer in a Non-Smoker: Is The Kitchen To Blame For This Woman’s Diagnosis?

A shocking story was shared of a woman who was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer despite neither smoking nor drinking.

A Chinese website reported the story of 37-year-old Mrs. Ting from Hunan Province, China, who had not visited the doctor despite coughing for nearly two years and feeling pain in her lungs but experiencing no other symptoms.

She finally visited the hospital as the pain became sharper, and she was shocked by the results of her CT scan.

“Why did you come alone? Your family needs to be notified,” the doctor said after reviewing the test results. “I live with my two children, but my husband is away for work and not home. What’s going on?” Mrs. Ting responded.

Mrs. Ting had multiple metastatic tumors in both lungs, and further tests resulted in a stage 4 lung cancer diagnosis.

She was puzzled about being diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer despite never having smoked or drank.

“Many female patients are diagnosed with lung cancer despite never smoking. Cigarette smoke is harmful, but the cooking oil smoke in the kitchen is also very harmful,” the doctor said.

“I have a range hood in the kitchen but never used it for fear of wasting electricity. I often didn’t feel like eating after cooking. I felt very uncomfortable inhaling the smoke,” Mrs. Ting shared.

The doctor warned her, “As the oil temperature rises, it forms various chemical compounds. This can make people feel dizzy. If you inhale too much kitchen smoke, you can lose your appetite, and in severe cases, you may even experience anorexia.”
