Cooling Without Costing: Tricks to Lower Your AC Bill This Summer

The Sudden Heatwave
Air Conditioning is a Necessity
Tips to Reduce Electricity Bills

Sanook

This summer, how to keep cool without blowing your budget on air conditioning is a hot topic.

Essential as they may be, air conditioners can significantly bump up your electricity bill.

Many people turn off the AC once the room feels cool to save money, only to crank it back on when it gets hot again.

While this may seem like a smart way to extend the air conditioner’s lifespan and cool down quickly, it causes the air conditioner to break down faster.

The air conditioner constantly cycles, turning on and off to keep the room cool.

Constantly turning the AC on and off forces the compressor and fan motor to work harder to reach the desired temperature, using more energy overall.

Surprisingly, constantly turning your AC on and off can use up to three times more energy than leaving it running steadily.

Therefore, constantly turning the air conditioner on and off increases energy consumption, damages the machine faster, and affects the user’s health.

As many experts recommend, it is better to maintain a consistent temperature, and the difference between the inside and outside temperatures should be about 5-7 degrees, ideally maintaining a temperature between 26-28 degrees Celcius (about 78-82 degrees Fahrenheit).

“Spring Turns to Spring”

There are also ways of using air conditioning that skyrocket electricity bills.

This happens when maintenance and cleaning are not carried out or the temperature is continuously raised or lowered.

Also, setting the lowest temperature when you enter the room or using the air conditioner without a fan can result in higher electricity bills.
