The post, titled “I was rejected for a proposal because of my last name,” gained a lot of attention when it was posted on the online community Nate Pann on the afternoon of the 22nd.

The person who shared the story, who revealed he is 33 years old this year, said, “I need a place to vent. It’s just as the title says. I was rejected for a proposal because of my last name,” adding, “I’m afraid people around me might find out, but for now, my last name is ‘Won.'”

He continued, “I’ve been with my girlfriend for seven years. She’s a year younger than me,” and said, “We both got jobs, and considering our age and the expectations from people around us, I started planning a proposal since the end of last year.”

He said, “Last weekend, I proposed to her at a hotel after suggesting we go on a domestic trip and have a hotel vacation. But suddenly, she told me to sit at the next table. Seeing her serious expression, I put the ring and ring case in my trouser pocket,” and revealed, “(My girlfriend) said, ‘I told you I have plans for our future children. I wanted to name the last character of our child’s name ‘Won’. But if the name is ‘WonOWon,’ it’s not good.’ That was the reason she gave for rejecting me.”

The man, who couldn’t understand this situation, lamented, “I even said, ‘My last name doesn’t matter. I agree a hundred times to follow the maternal family name,’ but my girlfriend got really angry, saying, ‘Then what would your family think of me?’ We argued, my girlfriend packed her bag and just went home, and I stayed up all night there and didn’t get home until yesterday afternoon.”

Ultimately, the man asked, “Did she just make up a reason because she doesn’t like me?” and said, “I’m really upset. I miss her even now. Does anyone have a similar experience?”

Most people who read about this sympathized with the man’s story.

They responded with comments such as, “If she wanted to marry you, she would have done so even if your name was Monkey Won,” “Maybe she has another guy,” “I can’t believe you’ve been with a woman like that for seven years…,” “What’s wrong with Mr. Won… If you like him, you wouldn’t care about that,” and “It seems like she has another guy or she’s being picky.”
