A man in his 20s, identified as Mr. A, who brutally murdered his live-with girlfriend, with whom he had even set a wedding date, was sentenced to 17 years in prison.

Mr. A was trialed for the charge of killing his girlfriend, Ms. B, in her 20s, by stabbing her over 190 times with a weapon in their apartment in Yeongwol County, Yeongwol-eup, Deokpo-ri, last July.

During his statement, Mr. A claimed that he committed the crime in a fit of rage after hearing insulting remarks from Ms. B while they were having conflicts over noise complaints with their neighbors.

The prosecution requested the court to sentence Mr. A to 25 years in prison and to order the attachment of a location-tracking electronic device, considering the extremely brutal method of his crime and his lack of remorse.

However, the court sentenced him to 17 years in prison, stating, “It appears that he committed the crime impulsively in a fit of rage while under extreme stress due to noise complaints, among other factors. We also took into account that he immediately reported to the police.”

The victim’s family is protesting this decision, claiming that it was a “premeditated crime.”

In an episode of JTBC’s ‘Crime Boss’ aired on the 22nd, Ms. B’s mother claimed that during the profiling investigation, the perpetrator said, “I was taking a break at work when I got a call from my girlfriend telling me to come home. I thought I should go and kill her today,” suggesting premeditated murder.

She continued, “The neighbors with whom they had conflicts over noise complaints moved out a week before the crime, and the claim that my daughter made insulting remarks is just the perpetrator’s assertion,” expressing her frustration.
