Korean Soccer Star Hwang Insists Sex Tape Filming Was Consensual in Latest Interrogation

Hwang Ui-jo (32, Nottingham Forest), a former member of the Korean national team, was summoned again by the police for filming illegal sex tapes.

According to the police, on January 26, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency’s Cyber Investigation Team called in Hwang Ui-jo, who is under investigation for charges of filming using cameras under the Sexual Violence Punishment Act, for questioning again. This comes ten days after the third investigation on January 15.

In this investigation, Hwang Ui-jo reportedly maintained his previous position, stating, “I admit to the filming, but it was not illegal as it was done with the consent of the other party.”

Previously, Hwang Ui-jo was summoned twice by the police on December 27 and January 5 but did not comply, citing the inability to leave his soccer team duties. Subsequently, Hwang Ui-jo attended the police station on January 12, January 15, and January 25 consecutively and was interrogated in private.

The police seized and forensically examined 11 electronic devices, including Hwang Ui-jo’s mobile phone and laptop, and continued the investigation after banning Hwang Ui-jo from leaving the country through the Ministry of Justice on January 16.

Hwang Ui-jo’s representatives petitioned the police on the 17th to dismiss the investigation team, claiming that the “exit ban is unfair.” The police did not accept.

Meanwhile, Hwang Ui-jo and two others, including his legal representative, are additionally charged with secondary victimization for releasing personal information that could identify the victim in a statement issued last November.
