Neighbor Stabs Woman to Death Over Noise Complaint

A horrific murder case has occurred in South Gyeongsang Province, rushing the police to launch an investigation.

According to Yonhap News on the 29th, the Sacheon Police Station in South Gyeongsang Province announced that they are currently investigating a man in his 50s who allegedly killed a woman living upstairs with a weapon for making a loud noise.

The man is being accused of stabbing and killing a woman in her 30s on the stairs of a villa in Sacheon-eup, Sacheon City, South Gyeongsang Province, around 4:40 p.m. the previous day.

According to the police investigation, the root cause of the incident was inter-floor noise.

The two have been neighbors for about three months, and it is known that the murderer had complaints against the victim, who lived upstairs for loudly slamming the front door.

On the day of the incident, they ran into each other on the stairs by chance and started an argument over the noise issue. It is understood that he then went home, grabbed a weapon, and committed the crime.

After the crime, the killer who had fled the scene was arrested by the police in Goseong County, South Gyeongsang Province, around 6:40 p.m.

The victim who was stabbed was transported to the hospital with serious injuries but eventually died during the treatment.

The police plan to investigate the exact circumstances of the incident with the killer and apply for an arrest warrant.

Meanwhile, on the 23rd a man in his 70s who had been in conflict with his neighbor over a floor noise complaint and assaulted the neighbor with a wooden sword on the roof of their apartment building received a suspended prison sentence.

Judge Lim Jin-soo of the Incheon District Court’s Criminal Division 11 announced on the same day that he sentenced the man who was indicted on charges of special assault, to six months in prison with a two-year suspension and ordered 80 hours of community service.

He was handed over to trial on charges of assaulting the woman who lives upstairs with a wooden sword on the roof of an apartment building in Dong-gu, Incheon, around 8:50 a.m. on March 8 last year because he was angry with the noises made from above.

Judge Lim said, “He inflicted injuries by striking the victim with a dangerous object, a wooden sword. Considering the danger of the crime, the nature of the crime is not good, and he has not been forgiven by the victim,” but also explained the reason for the sentence, saying, “The defendant admits to the crime. Considering that he is a first-time offender with no previous criminal punishment, we took this into account.”
