Walmart Store Managers Could Earn up to $400,000 Annually with Stock Options

For the first time in history, Walmart, America’s leading physical retailer, has decided to raise the salaries of its store managers, a position already known for its high income, earning over $100,000 annually.

Recently, Walmart announced that it would increase the average annual salary and bonuses for U.S. store managers starting February 1.

Their average annual salary will increase from $107,000 to $128,000.

In addition, Walmart has decided to give managers up to $20,000 in company stocks this year.

Walmart’s stock price has risen by 16% in the past year and 75% over the past five years. The company supports employee stock purchases, covering 15% of the stock purchase amount up to $1,800 annually.

Additionally, if a store achieves its annual target, the manager receives a bonus of up to 200% of their base salary.

With a 200% bonus and a $20,000 stock bonus, the annual salary could rise to approximately $400,000.

Walmart’s unprecedented treatment is due to the strong retail sales last December.

The increase in U.S. retail sales last December, a major shopping period, was 0.6% month-on-month, twice as high as the 0.3% increase in November.

Meanwhile, the store manager plays a crucial role in Walmart stores, of which there are approximately 4,600 in the U.S. They manage hundreds of employees and oversee all sales, inventory management, and operations at Walmart stores.

75% of Walmart’s store managers are promoted from hourly workers. It’s not a job that requires a high education like a college degree. After about five years of work, they are allowed to become managers.

John Furner, the CEO of Walmart U.S., started as an hourly worker 30 years ago, rose through the ranks as a store manager, and eventually became the CEO of the U.S. division.
