According to foreign media outlets such as the Daily Mail and New York Post, on the 18th (local time), a Delta Airlines flight departing originating from Amsterdam, Netherlands, bound for Detroit, USA, had to return just an hour after takeoff due to an issue inside the cabin.

This incident occurred when the overhead bin opened, causing maggots to spill onto the passengers below.

One passenger on the flight recounted the situation, saying, “I was sitting in front of the problematic seat with my family. A woman behind us shouted to the flight attendant that “maggots are falling on our heads.” When we turned around, we witnessed maggots wriggling on the seat.”

Foreign media outlets revealed that the bag responsible for the maggot spillage contained fish wrapped in newspaper.

A nearby passenger stated, “At first, it didn’t smell too bad because it was sealed, but after the bag was opened, it smelled horrible.”

The passenger added about the person who brought the fish, “When the flight attendant asked who the bag belonged to, he claimed ownership without displaying any unusual reaction. He looked surprisingly calm despite the circumstances.

Another passenger posted on social media to express frustration, saying, “It was disgusting. It ruined the trip for hundreds of people. We had to wait an extra day in Amsterdam to board a replacement flight.”

Meanwhile, Delta Airlines responded to the incident by offering affected passengers compensation, including 8,000 airline mileage points, hotel accommodations, meal vouchers, and additional compensation.

A Delta Airlines representative apologized to passengers whose flight was disrupted due to improper management of cabin luggage. He also stated, “The aircraft returned to the gate to be cleaned, and the passengers were assigned to the next available flight.”
