This Russian EV Looks Absolutely Ridiculous

The Russian Avtotor Amber
highlights its ugly design
and is being mocked by consumers worldwide

If the world were to choose the ugliest car, the majority would probably choose Fiat’s ‘Multipla.’ It is a minivan produced by the Italian car manufacturer Fiat since 1998, which received a lot of criticism for its quite peculiar interior and exterior design.

However, recently a car that surpasses the Multipla in design has appeared, attracting both attention and ridicule from consumers worldwide.
The star of the show is the first electric car produced by Avtotor, a car company located in Kaliningrad, Russia, called Amber.

Russia’s first electric car
The emergence of a ‘Tesla Killer’

After the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, several car manufacturers and suppliers left Russia. Russia is making various attempts to revive its stagnating automobile industry. In this situation, the ‘Tesla Killer’ Avtotor Amber, which embodies the will to compete with Tesla, made its appearance.

Contrary to Russia’s expectations, Russia’s first electric car, Avtotor Amber, has become a laughing stock. The reason is none other than its design. The exceedingly ugly design of the car is beyond absurd and is causing bewilderment. Some netizens have dubbed the car a washing machine and have mocked it with comments like ‘We found the reason why they stole a washing machine from Ukraine.’

A complete mess of a design
It embodies all the conditions of ugliness

The red exterior of the Amber has a slightly crumpled, irregular front end and small headlights that look like eyes. The side windows are only for the driver and passenger seats, and there are two charging ports on the front and back of the passenger seat. The reason for the two charging ports is unknown.

The backspace is filled with protruding cooling and control devices, and the wheels are small compared to the overall vehicle, causing a visual imbalance. It also has stairs for getting in and out of the car because the body is high. Autovolution explained that the battery is laid on the floor, so the body is inevitably high.

The disappointing technology of Russia
Can they really ship 50,000 units?

All parts of the Avtotor Amber, including the chassis, motor, battery, and electronic devices, are known to be manufactured in Russia. Information about battery capacity and driving distance related to performance has not yet been revealed. Avtotor Amber is scheduled to be produced in 2025 and is aiming to ship 50,000 units.

Fiat’s Multipla had an ugly interior and exterior design, but it had excellent convenience and performance. As a result, Multipla was able to achieve sales of 330,000 units. But times have changed, and design has become more important. Also, Amber, whose performance has not been revealed, can only be a laughing stock until the next facelift. If it fails to differentiate itself in the next facelift, Russia’s first electric car will fail.
