Porsche Teases New SUV Design with K1 Concept Images

Porsche Gears Up for New SUV
A 7-Seater, 3-Row Electric SUV?
Is This What the Design Will Look Like?

Traditional sports car brands that did not release SUVs in the past because they did not fit their brand identity are now releasing various SUVs. Porsche significantly recovered its declining sales by launching the first generation Cayenne model in 2002.

With the midsize SUV Macan, Porsche is attempting to expand its SUV lineup. Recently, a test mule presumed to be K1 (development name), a 7-seater electric SUV with 3 rows, was also captured driving. It may be the Cayenne EV, but the K1 is being discussed as a strong candidate due to its long length.

Test Mule Spotted on the Road with Square Headlights

Expectations are rising as it was spotted installing a large door to increase accessibility to the third row. As it is still a test mule, temporary parts were used, and some designs were obscured, but it was possible to gauge the vehicle’s overall shape. Based on this, an overseas rendering designer recently created and unveiled a rendering of the K1, which has become a hot topic.

First, looking at the front design, the square headlamps on the test mule were applied. The headlamp line extending to the side is boxy, while the inside has a sharp shape, giving it a sleek appearance. Inside the headlamp, a horizontal lamp module divided into four is applied.

Place vertical air intake
Slowly falling roofline

An air intake is placed below the headlamp. The overall shape is spacious and trapezoidal, taking up a large portion of the front, while the air intake itself is made vertically narrow on the side. Porsche’s unique voluminous line was applied to the top of the headlamp. The overall details of the front seem to have been inspired by the appearance of the Taycan.

The side part has a long roofline starting from the gently rising A-pillar. The overall roofline is a crossover, and the height decreases toward the rear. Because of this shape, some consumers have already raised suspicions that the headroom in the third row may be insufficient.

Applying Volkswagen’s Next-Generation Platform
Expected to Launch in 2027

In the rear is a roof spoiler rising to the top and a horizontal tail lamp. The rear part appears to have referenced the shape of the Cayenne. The sloping rear glass and straight lines across the tailgate add volume. On the side, the air intake is angled as an ㄱ, expressing a high-performance sensibility.

K1 is designed based on the Volkswagen Group’s next-generation SSP platform. Equipped with a dual electric motor system, it is expected to provide a maximum output of more than 1,000 horsepower and a driving range of more than 700 km (435 miles) on a single charge. As the launch date is scheduled for 2027, several changes are expected depending on the development process.
