Considering American automobile history, the 1980s were not a good time for the industry. The recession and economic crisis caused by the oil crisis impacted society as a whole, so fuel-efficient yet inexpensive cars became popular.

Demand for high-performance vehicles like muscle and sports cars, which typically have low fuel efficiency, has significantly decreased. Nevertheless, certain luxury cars, renowned for their comfort and convenience during tougher times, have maintained their appeal and presence in the market.

After the launch of the second-generation model, it recorded high sales and popularity

The vehicle to be introduced this time is the second-generation Lincoln Town Car, a symbol of American luxury cars at the time. This model went through difficult times in the US after the launch of the first-generation model in 1981. Initially, it was scheduled to be replaced by a front-wheel-drive model line as oil prices soared, but as oil prices began to stabilize, demand for the Town Car also began to increase.

Since the launch of the second-generation model, it has become the best-selling full-size luxury sedan in the US. The Town Car, a part of American history, was captured in none other than South Korea. Approximately 30 years after the launch of the second-generation model, it may be difficult to meet current convenience standards as it enters the ranks of old cars. However, its luxurious appearance still attracts people’s attention.

Equipped with a V8 modular engine, it generates a maximum output of 210 horsepower

The model was captured in South Korea because the second-generation Town Car model was imported in 1995. Although nearly 30 years have passed, it still maintains a clean appearance and gloss, making it look new. It had a high reputation as a luxury car in South Korea at the time as it had the elements of a luxury car, such as an angular yet large body and soft cushioned seats inside.

This model is equipped with Ford’s latest next-generation engine, the V8 4.6L modular engine, and generates a maximum output of 210 horsepower and a maximum torque of 38.0kgf.m. Despite its huge size of 5,563 mm (219.0 inches) in length, 1,948 mm (76.7 inches) in width, 1,422 mm (56.0 inches) in height, and 2,982 mm (117.4 inches) wheelbase, it has sufficient forward mobility based on ample power.

In addition, starting from the 3rd generation model, the body became increasingly rounded for aerodynamic performance and fuel efficiency. In contrast, the 2nd generation model showed a luxurious design with the popular angular design at the time. The square headlamp is enlarged and extends to the side, and the chrome grill has a dense vertical pattern, creating a luxurious look.

In the interior, a first-row bench seat was applied to increase convenience. Here, a thick cushion like a sofa provides a comfortable boarding feeling. However, one drawback is that the seat is too soft and does not properly support the driver’s body. A column-type shift lever was applied to the right side of the flat steering wheel. We can also see a luxurious look inside the interior, such as wood trim applied to the dashboard.
