BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe’s Fresh Face and Controversial Grille

BMW recently unveiled a full-change model for the 1 Series and is preparing a full-change model for the 2 Series Gran Coupe. Although it will be launched as a second-generation model, it is expected to focus on exterior changes like a facelift model.

In the case of the new 2 Series Gran Coupe, like the 1 Series, the engine is placed horizontally and expected to achieve similar design changes. In particular, as BMW has recently added detail to the design by applying various versions of the grille pattern, interest in the appearance of the new 2 Series Gran Coupe is also increasing.

The Multi-Directional Grille Pattern Emerges as BMW’s Latest Design Language

Among these, a prototype of the 2 Series Gran Coupe full change model, with some camouflage removed, was recently captured and is becoming a hot topic. Prototypes of the new 2 Series Gran Coupe and M Performance model have been captured before, but the core design was not revealed as the grille and part of the bumper C-pillar were covered with camouflage tape. As the launch date approaches, some of the camouflage appears to have been removed.

This prototype spy shot reveals the grille design, continuing controversy among consumers. The multi-directional pattern grille applied to the new 1 Series is also used in the new 2 Series Gran Coupe. The grille design with diagonal and horizontal patterns is emerging as BMW’s latest design language, as it is also applied to the new X3.

Bumpers, air intakes, and daytime running lights are also expected to change.

However, in the case of the M Performance model, a black horizontal bar was applied to create a difference in the grille design. The grille is the same as that of the 1 Series, with a design that looks like it stabs at the side and a thin width. In addition, changes in the design of the bumper and headlamps at the front achieved a change in impression.

Although some headlamps are covered with camouflage, they are expected to have sleek designs similar to those of the 1 Series, with sharply extended ends. In addition, the graphics of the daytime running lights and tail lights are expected to change. On the side of the bumper, it creates an aggressive look through a triangular air intake and a trapezoidal angled bumper grille.

For the interior, a curved display is applied

Although the vehicle interior was captured from a distance and details were not revealed, a curved display that integrates a digital cluster and display is applied. In the powertrain case, driving efficiency was improved using a mild hybrid system of diesel and gasoline engines. The entirely changed model of the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe is scheduled to be launched in major markets worldwide as early as the fall of 2024.
