Yemeni rebels, who had previously issued a warning about targeting a vessel associated with Israel due to its ongoing conflict with Hamas, have asserted responsibility for an attack on a ship.

On the 26th (local time), Yahya Sari, a spokesperson for the Yemeni rebel Houthi, declared in a statement that they had launched a missile at the commercial ship MSC United in the Red Sea. The vessel reportedly disregarded three warnings.

The spokesperson also claimed that the Houthi rebels launched several drones targeting military facilities in Eilat, a southern port city of Israel, and other places in the Palestinian-occupied territories. In response, the Israeli military announced that it had intercepted aerial targets coming towards the country from the Red Sea.

Furthermore, the U.S. military disclosed that it had successfully intercepted multiple missiles. The U.S. Central Command, which has jurisdiction over the Middle East and other regions, conveyed via a statement on X that it had intercepted 12 attack drones, three anti-ship ballistic missiles, and a ground attack cruise missile launched by the Houthi rebels in the southern Red Sea area. This operation involved assets such as the destroyer USS Laboon from the Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group and the F/A-18 Super Hornet fighter jet.

Following the attempted attack by the Yemeni rebels, global oil prices experienced an uptick. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude for February delivery was trading at $75.31 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX), marking an increase of $1.75 (2.83%) compared to the previous trading day. Meanwhile, Brent crude for March delivery on the London ICE Futures Exchange was valued at $80.61 per barrel, reflecting a rise of $1.81 (2.30%).”
