Former Actress Shiho Wakabayashi Opens Up About Current Life Situation on Government Assistance

Shiho Wakabayashi, who previously held a successful acting career in Japan, has spoken openly about the challenges she’s currently facing.

On March 12, Shiho Wakabayashi revealed on social media that she receives support through Japan’s social welfare programs, including a disability pension and livelihood protection.

Shiho Wakabayashi provided insight into her current situation, where she is receiving support through Japan’s social welfare programs. She mentioned residing in a specialized facility while emphasizing her desire to maintain the privacy of its location to avoid disrupting the lives of other residents.

Shiho Wakabayashi disclosed that she has been a recipient of Japan’s livelihood protection program since the previous year. While a prior interview with a media outlet regarding this situation had happened, it had yet to be published. She acknowledged experiencing mental strain and expressed a preference for personally addressing the matter.

Her social media post regarding her situation garnered mixed responses. While many expressed support, she also acknowledged receiving criticism: “Thousands of people say good things, but my heart hurts from what a few people say.” She appealed for empathy and understanding toward individuals facing similar circumstances.

Shiho Wakabayashi concluded her message by expressing regret for not being able to fulfill the expectations of her fans. She acknowledged the situation by sharing, “Honestly, I regret it, but this is the reality I am facing.” 

Shiho Wakabayashi began her acting career in 1984. She rose to prominence in 1991 with her role in the family drama series Tendmei Todoke. In 2008, she took a hiatus from acting, and her agency contract officially ended in 2009, marking her departure from the entertainment industry.
