Trump Leads in Five of Six Contested States, Could Secure 300 Electoral Votes

Signs of Biden’s Support Base Among Black, Asian and Latino Crumbling

As the U.S. presidential election looms a year away, former President Donald Trump has surpassed President Joe Biden’s approval rating in five out of six key battleground states, according to recent polls.

According to the New York Times (NYT) on the 5th (local time), a survey conducted by the NYT and Siena College from the 22nd of last month to the 3rd of this month asked 662 voters in six states, ‘Who would you support in the presidential election between President Biden and former President Trump?’ The results showed that former President Trump’s approval rating was 48%, ahead of President Biden’s 44%.

Regionally, President Trump led by a margin of 3 to 10 percentage points in Arizona (49% to 44%), Georgia (49% to 43%), Michigan (48% to 43%), Nevada (52% to 41%), and Pennsylvania (48% to 44%). President Biden only led in Wisconsin, edging out former President Trump 47% to 45%.

The NYT reported, “There are signs that support among Black voters, who greatly helped President Biden’s 2020 election victory, is weakening,” and “Voters in battleground states answered that they trust former President Trump more than President Biden in areas such as the economy, diplomacy, and immigration.” It also forecasted, “If this atmosphere in the battleground states continues until next November, former President Trump could secure far more than the 270 electoral votes needed to win, possibly reaching 300.”
