Michigan Airbnb Turns Into a Bat Cave: Guests Share Nightmare Experience

A group of guests who rented a room through Airbnb, a lodging-sharing company, filed a lawsuit after experiencing the worst night due to bats inside their accommodation.

According to the foreign media Insider, these guests visited Michigan, USA, in July to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their high school reunion and booked an Airbnb accommodation. One night, a few days into their stay, they encountered a swarm of bats pouring out from the attic into the corridor.

They tried to escape the house, but the stairs and the corridor were filled with bats, and they had no choice but to return to the bedroom. Despite blocking the bedroom door with towels and pillows, bats kept entering through gaps between the walls and the floor.

The guests contacted the Airbnb host 11 times, but there was no response throughout the night. The bats, being nocturnal animals, naturally disappeared the next morning. A pest control company discovered following day brown bats in the attic and bat droppings and urine left on the basement walls.

The guests criticized Airbnb, which advertised such accommodation on its platform, stating, “What was supposed to be a pleasant vacation turned into a nightmare like a scene from a horror movie.” Some guests had to receive hospital treatment for accidents like being bitten or bumped by bats.

The Airbnb host regretted the incident, calling it an “unfortunate event that occurred randomly to an unbelievable extent.” The host immediately offered a refund per the guests’ request and proposed to cover the cost of a hotel and dinner.
