Man Finds Egg with 4 Yolks, Chance Rarer Than Winning the Lottery

An egg with four yolks has been discovered in South Korea, sparking interest.

On the 22nd, Mr. Kim, a 64-year-old resident of Songpa-gu, Seoul, was taken by surprise while preparing fried eggs, according to the Korean Poultry Association. He cracked an extra-large egg that his wife had bought from the market, only to find it contained four yolks.

Considering it an unusual experience, he contacted the association to report the occurrence.

The Korean Poultry Association pointed out that although there have been previous reports of double or triple yolks in eggs in South Korea, this marks the first instance of an egg containing four yolks being found.

Overseas, a similar incident made headlines in February when a British resident, Mr. Tully, discovered an egg with four yolks while preparing breakfast.

At the time, the British Egg Information Service reported that one in every 1,000 eggs contains two yolks, and the odds of finding an egg with four yolks is one in 11 billion. This probability is even lower than the odds of winning the lottery, which stands at one in 8,145,060.

So, is it safe to eat an egg with four yolks?

An official from the association told the Chosun Ilbo, “Although the chances of finding an egg with four yolks are slim, it’s a natural phenomenon and safe to eat.” They added, “The person who found it cooked it and reportedly enjoyed eating it.”
