Chinese Grandma Inherits $380 Million to Her Pets Instead of Children

A Chinese grandmother upset that her children rarely contact her has decided to leave her fortune worth around $380 million to her pet dog and cat.

This was reported by the South China Morning Post (SCMP) on the 25th (local time), citing Chinese media.

According to the report, a few years ago Grandma Luomo who lives in Shanghai, wrote a will to leave her fortune to her three children.

However recently, Luomo changed her will after seeing her children neglect her by rarely contacting her and not even visiting her when she was ill.

Luomo changed her will to leave her 20 million yuan (approximately $380million) fortune to her pets, stating that only her pets stayed by her side, and she wouldn’t leave a penny to her children.

She wrote that all her wealth should be used to care for her pets and their offspring after her death.

She also appointed an animal hospital as the estate administrator to take care of her pets.

Luomo wanted to directly inherit all her property to her pets firsthand.

However, this is illegal in China. Chen Kai, a manager of the Beijing Estate Registration Center, said, “But there is an alternative to solve this problem. We would have advised her to appoint a trustworthy person to supervise the animal hospital to ensure the pets are properly cared for.”

SCMP reported that Luomo’s story has become a hot topic online in China related to inheritance and family issues. Comments such as, “How disappointed and heartbroken she must have been to decide not to leave anything to her children,” and “Well done. If my daughter treats me poorly in the future, I will also leave my house to someone else,” were posted.
