Chinese Man’s Jaw-Dropping Reaction to Winning $95 Million Lottery Jackpot

A lottery winner in China has set a new record for the highest prize in Chinese lottery history, winning 680 million yuan (approximately USD 95 million).

According to local media reports in China, including Zhonghua Network, on the 7th, a 28-year-old man named Dwan Mo, who lives in Guiyang, Guizhou, had the fortune of winning the accumulated prize of 680 million yuan alone in the 16th “Double Color Ball” lottery draw held the previous day.

This prize money far surpasses China’s previous highest lottery prize, which was 570 million yuan (approximately $80 million USD).

It is also the first prize money of over 100 million yuan this year.

Mr. Dwan is reportedly self-employed with a small business and told the media that he “couldn’t believe it at first and checked it several times,” adding, “I’m so happy and surprised.”

The Double Color Ball, one of the lottery systems operated in China, is similar to Lotto in Korea.

The system, where you choose six red balls and one blue ball to bet on, increases the prize money as more participants join.

Meanwhile, the lottery fever in China is getting hotter due to the recent economic downturn.

According to data released by the Chinese Ministry of Finance, the cumulative lottery sales from January to October last year were 475.876 billion yuan (approximately $66 billion USD), a 53% increase from the previous year’s period. During this period, the average number of lottery tickets purchased per Chinese person was roughly 340 yuan (approximately USD 48).

It is reported that the number of young people buying lottery tickets has also significantly increased amid recent record youth unemployment rates.
