“unpredictable US presidential election” Biden loses to Trump in all major US polls.

President Joe Biden, who is seeking re-election in next year’s U.S. elections, is unusually trailing all potent rivals in major polls as an incumbent, CNN reported on the 18th (local time).

Former President Donald Trump is a likely Republican candidate to compete against President Biden in the election next November.

In recent polls from five major outlets, including CBS News, CNN, Fox News, Marquette Law School, and Quinnipiac University, Trump’s approval rating led President Biden by a margin of 2 to 4 percentage points.

Although Trump had a slight edge within the margin of error, it’s rare for an incumbent president to fall behind in all major polls.

Over the past 80 years in the U.S., incumbent presidents have typically led in polls by just over 10 percentage points about a year before the election.

This includes nearly all incumbent presidents since Franklin Roosevelt in 1943.

Although the gap is small, the recent poll results showing Trump in the lead are noteworthy.

Some attribute President Biden’s struggles to divisions within the Democratic Party.

President Biden’s policy of supporting Israel, which is at war with the Palestinian militant group Hamas, has been criticized by progressive figures.

However, CNN analyzed that economic and age issues could be the reasons for trailing behind former President Trump, rather than ideology, considering the poll results showing overwhelming support for President Biden from progressive voters.

Among these, President Biden’s age, 80, was cited as the most significant factor.

According to a poll by The New York Times and Siena College released earlier this month, 71% of voters in six states where Biden won, including Georgia, responded that he is too old to be a competent president. This figure is significantly higher than the 36% of voters who answered the same in 2020.

Former President Trump, aged 77, faces far less resistance when it comes to the execution of presidential duties than President Biden.
