Unaccompanied 6-Year-Old Child Put on the Wrong Flight

A six-year-old child traveling alone to spend the Christmas holidays at his grandmother’s house in the United States accidentally boarded the wrong plane and ended up over 150 miles away from his intended destination.

According to local media including CBS on the 25th (local time), Spirit Airlines reported an incident where a child who was supposed to travel from Philadelphia to Fort Myers in Florida without a guardian mistakenly boarded a flight to Orlando.

Fort Myers and Orlando are approximately 160 miles (257km) apart.

The child a six-year-old boy, had boarded the plane alone to visit his grandmother Maria Ramos CBS reported.

The boy’s mother had handed him over to the flight crew with the necessary documents but the family was outraged when an unimaginable situation occurred where he unknowingly boarded the wrong flight.

Ramos explained the situation saying “They said ‘the child did not get on the plane and missed the flight,’ but I had a check-in ticket. I told them it was impossible.”

She added, “I ran onto the plane and asked the crew where my grandson was and whether he had been handed over to them. The crew simply said they had not taken the child on board.”

The airline has not disclosed the identity of the child or how such an incident occurred only stating that an internal investigation is underway.

The airline added, “The child was under the protection of staff and as soon as the mistake was discovered we immediately contacted the family.”

In response, Ramos said she later received a call from the airline informing her that her grandson was in Orlando. “I want to know what happened. After the mother handed over the child to the crew with the documents, did the crew leave the child alone? Why did the child board the wrong passenger plane alone?” she fumed.
