Trump Speaks Out: How He Ended Up in the Iconic ‘Home Alone 2’ Scene

Former U.S. President Donald Trump, who made a cameo appearance in the classic Christmas film Home Alone 2, has refuted accusations of bullying his way into the film, claiming that he agreed to appear only after persistent requests from the production team.

On the 28th (local time), the former president posted on his social media platform Truth Social, “30 years ago (how time flies!), Director Chris Columbus, and others, were begging me to make a cameo appearance in Home Alone 2.” He added, “They rented the Plaza Hotel in New York, which I owned at the time. I was very busy, and didn’t want to do it. They were very nice, but above all, persistent. I agreed, and the rest is history!” Trump’s appearance in a scene at the New York Plaza Hotel, which he owned then, was a topic of conversation when the movie was released in 1992.

Regarding this matter, Columbus stated in a 2020 interview that Trump made it a condition for filming at the New York Plaza Hotel, insisting that he must be included in the film. The director recounted agreeing to this demand. Columbus noted that during the initial screening, the audience surprisingly cheered at Trump’s appearance on screen. He even advised the editor not to remove that scene, keeping it for the audience’s reaction. However, Columbus also pointed out that Trump effectively bullied his way into the film.

In response, Trump abruptly refuted Columbus’s claim after three years, saying, “Nothing could be further from the truth.” He contended that the film’s success was partly due to his cameo, questioning why, if he had forced his way into the movie and the filmmakers were unwilling, they would leave his scene unedited for three decades. He praised his performance, asserting, “Because I was, and still am, great for the movie, that’s why,” and accused another Hollywood figure of attempting to capitalize on what he termed “the Trump effect.”

Meanwhile, as former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley’s popularity surges ahead of the Republican primary starting in January next year, Trump appears to be paying attention to public opinion. Haley, advocating for a generational change and differentiation, trailed Trump by only 4 percentage points within the margin of error in a poll released on the 22nd.
