In Iowa Rally, Trump Recalls His ‘Great Job’ with North Korea’s Kim Jong Un

On the 14th (local time), Donald Trump, a prominent Republican presidential candidate and former President of the United States, asserted that his close relationship with North Korea’s leader Kim Jong Un during his tenure was advantageous for U.S. security.

Former President Trump made this statement during a campaign rally held at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa, just one day before the inaugural Republican primary, the Iowa Caucus.

He broached the North Korea issue following discussions of the Russia-Ukraine situation, all while criticizing the diplomatic approach of the Biden administration. Trump stated, “Kim Jong-un [is] very smart, very tough, but he liked me and I got along really well with him and we were safe.”

Trump made a statement emphasizing that “they have a massive nuclear stockpile” while characterizing the U.S. efforts as exceptionally noteworthy.

It’s important to highlight that Trump, who held three in-person meetings with Kim Jong Un during his presidency from 2017 to 2021, has consistently asserted that his summit diplomacy with Kim prevented a nuclear war with North Korea.
