President Joe Biden, who is in a state of emergency as he is trailing by 6 percentage points in a bilateral match with former President Donald Trump, is stepping up efforts to rally his base of support. Biden has touted the success of Bidenomics (The economic policy of the Joe Biden administration), citing Samsung as an example.

On the 25th (local time), President Biden said in a speech in Wisconsin, a swing state in the presidential election, “We are rebuilding factories, and jobs are returning to America.”

President Biden said, “In the past, we had 40% of the semiconductor market. Then suddenly, we had nothing,” and added, “Guess what I did. I got on a plane and went to Korea and had a conversation with the Korean leaders. I said, ‘Isn’t there a company called Samsung? They make a lot of computer semiconductors. Come to America.'”

President Biden said, “Not only them (Samsung), but a total of 50 billion dollars (approximately 67 trillion won) is flowing into America to build factories,” citing the semiconductor fabrication plant (fab) under construction in Ohio. He also said, “They are not only building production facilities, but also employing a huge number of people,” and shouted, “Do you know what the average annual salary is? It’s a hundred thousand dollars (approximately 140 million won), and you don’t even need a college degree.”

Through his speech that day, President Biden touted the attraction of investments from Korean companies to the US through the CHIPS and Science Act and the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) as his major economic achievements.

President Biden criticized former President Trump for pushing for tax cuts for the rich. He stated, “He sent good-paying jobs overseas,” and “He undermined American jobs by reducing wage expenditures and importing products.” He also emphasized, “The American economy is growing at an astonishing rate,” and “Economic growth is stronger than during the Trump administration.”

According to a poll conducted by Reuters and Ipsos from the 22nd to the 24th and released that day, President Biden was shown to be trailing by 6 percentage points respectively in both a bilateral matchup with former President Trump and a multilateral virtual matchup. President Biden won in Wisconsin in the 2020 presidential election, which boosted his election victory.
